Photographs

Sometimes the photos I take remind me of the paintings I make – similar structures, similar gradients of colour. I enjoy showing prints of these kinds of photos – again in sets, usually of three - together with my paintings.

Ploughed field with stripes of young seedlings. In the front of the picture, the crops are aligned about 15 degrees off horizontal, in the background they are almost vertical. A very faint curved horzon can be seen, but the sky is very misty and obscures most of the horizon,

Low hills make up the horizon. In the forground, most of the hill is brown, but the crest of the horizon is gull green. In the background a further fainter hill is seen, with some tree siloutes on the top. The sky is almost all dark grey with some lighter portions, and the sun just faintly visible as a blurry disc.

At the bottom of the photo is a tree-covered slightly sloping horizon. The foreground is entirely black. The sky is a sunset, bright yellow at the bottom, moving with a swirling pink before giving way to deep less-textured purple.

Lower quarter of picture is a black strip - a hill, with a slightly curved horizon. The sky is slightly textured purple with a few pink highlights.

Dark foreground fills about a quarter of the bottom of the image. It is a hill, and the very top of it is catching the sun, liming it in a sandy yellow. Above the horizon, a low yellow catches the clouds that move up into light grey and blue.

The image is a gradient of colour beginning in lower 6th as dark green, moving to light green, light brown, hazy teal, light blue, dark blue. Almost no details can be made out. The image is of a green field in hazy light with a blue sky.
